Sleepy Boy

Someone was tuckered out.  Enough to fall asleep sitting up.
I even got him drifting off on video.  Of course, someone had to interfere while I was filming.....someone whose name starts with R and ends in "i-an."

Turtle, Turtle!

Beach Time

Last week school started.  The weather has started to get a lot cooler.  Summer is definitely nearly over.   So, for one last "summer fling" we traveled to Virginia Beach for a family get-together over Labor Day weekend, where it is still hot and sunny.

It was Ryan's first time back to the beach since he was five months old.  He was so excited.
He went running down to the water holding the body board.  He really wanted to try "surfing."
Then, when the ocean waves rushed up and lapped at his feet, he seemed to realize, this water was different. And scary.  And he ran back to the beach blanket as fast as he could, crying.  He told his grandma all about the scary sharks in that water.
And then he contented himself to play in the sand.  Unfortunately, that meant a lot of people got a painful face full of sand.  By the second day, we were able to coax him onto the wet sand.

But he refused to go anywhere near the water.   It's a good thing his cousin was there to keep him company!

Baby Dylan really enjoyed hanging out on the blanket under the umbrella.

The rest of us were pounded by the waves, which were still really high and hard after hurricane Irene.  When we were tired of face-planting on the ocean floor, we enjoyed the beautiful breezes and ocean scenery.

Starry Eyes

Someone's a little starry eyed around here.....
Literally.
Something tells me Ryan is behind this....

Chapstick

It's unbelievably useful.....
Especially for under-arm funk.

Yep.
That oughta do it.

Popcorn with Flair

Last week as a special send-off treat for Josh, we made some special pop-corn.
If you love peanut butter, it may be right up your alley.

We used air-popped popcorn, although I'm sure you could also use plain micowavable popcorn.

Use equal parts corn syrup, peanut butter and sugar in a pot and bring it to a boil.

You could also add a tablespoon of vanilla extract, but we forgot that step and it still tasted really good.

Pour over your popcorn and stir until mixed in thoroughly.  The result is something like a pop-corn ball.  Then...enjoy!  It was a big hit at our house.

Excuses, Excuses

Ryan is full of excuses when it comes to me leaving him at the childcare at the YMCA.

First, when I , told him we were going to go, he said he was "too hungry."
No problem buddy, here's some dinner.

Then I got in my workout clothes.  When I came back he was laying on the couch with his eyes squinched shut.
C'mon buddy it's time to go.
"I can't! I too sleepin."

I got him in the car and he started telling me, "I too sick!"
I told him he was not sick.
And we were going.
And that was that!
To which he relplied
"I no talk you!" and crossed his arms and pouted.
Talk about bringing out the big guns.
Overall he did very well....when we actually got there.
